NCWC SACS QEP – 21st Century Skills – Information Literacy

June 5, 2008

North Carolina Wesleyan College, a small liberal arts college in eastern North Carolina, is preparing for reaffirmation of accreditation by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). One of the planning documents for a SACS visit is the preparation of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

After a call for topics to all faculty and staff for a QEP topic, 21st Century Skills – Information Literacy was selected. We are begining the planning process for this QEP.  Our strategic vision is to “develop a plan that strategically incorporates information literacy within the College’s curriculum (as opposed to “across the curriculum” with learning outcomes.  We are using the ACRL definition of information literacy “Information Literacy is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information” as our standard.

We welcome comments on how information literacy is  defined at your college and how it is implemented “within the curriculum” and its learning outcomes.
